ANTINOMY

[A340/B398] The antinomy of pure reason is one of three kinds of "dialectical syllogisms" in which speculative reason is mis-applied beyond the limits of possible experience, the other two being the transcendental paralogism and the ideal of pure reason. An antinomy "is directed to the transcendental concept of the absolute totality of the series of conditions for any given appearance", a concept which we are not entitled to employ.
