Determination

[L:105] To be conscious of a determination is to be conscious of a characteristic. By "removing determination", logical abstraction produces "higher concepts" (i.e., by making a concept less determinate); logical determination, by contrast, adds determination and produces "ever lower concepts". [A572/B600] The principle of complete determination is an application of the law of the excluded middle; all things are completely determined in the sense that "if all the possible predicates of things be taken together with their contradictory opposites, then one of each pair of contradictory opposites must belong to it".
