Definition Of:

DOUBT

Kant DictionaryKant Dictionary
[L:90] In the cognition of the probable, doubt is "a counter-reason to the holding-to-be-true". Kant distinguishes subjective and objective doubt; the former is "the state of an undecided mind" the latter is "the cognition of the sufficiency of the grounds of holding something to be true". Skepticism is a "principle of doubting which consists in the maxim of treating cognitions by making them uncertain and showing the impossibility of attaining certainty" to skepticism Kant opposes dogmatism.
