SPECULATIVE REASON
[Bx] Opposed by Kant to practical reason. Whereas speculative (or theoretical) reason "determines [an object] and its concept", practical reason "makes [its object] actual". Thus speculative reason is discursive, unlike practical reason. Kant argues that speculative reason has no employment beyond experience, and he critiques the "transcendental" employment of pure speculative reason.
