(b. 1898, Orange, NJ, d. 1972). McCulloch received his M.D. from Columbia University's College of Surgeons and Physicians. He is perhaps best known for "A Logical Calculus Immanent in Nervous Activity", which he co-authored with
Walter Pitts. This paper is widely credited with being a seminal contribution to neural network theory, the theory of automata, the theory of computation, and cybernetics.
