Waldo, Peter
(c 1150-____) wealthy French merchant of Lyons; had a deep personal spiritual experience; followers are called Waldensiansor Waldenses; emphasized simplicity, purity, and evangelism. They rejected most of the seven sacraments and redefined the others. Rejected belief in purgatory, miracles, invocation of saints, fasts, and abstinences. Refused to take oaths.
